John Gray

Main Session Speaker

John W. Gray, III, was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he accepted Jesus Christ as Savior at seven years old. The product of two musically gifted parents, he showed an early affinity for music and was directing the choir at seven years old. His passion for music and the arts was evident throughout his formative years, and he was part of every theatrical production at church and school.

Following his high school graduation, Gray pursued music and acting in college, participating in the traveling gospel choir that represented the school around the country.

Not long after accepting the call to preach the gospel at age 21, he was asked to be a cast member in a touring stage play. From there, God opened doors that allowed Gray to serve Him while utilizing his gifts of music, comedy and preaching. His heart led him to participate in a musical tour whose purpose was to eliminate racism and create equality in the body of Christ.

Gray accepted his first position as a youth pastor and felt that he had found the call of God on his life: impact youth and young adults with the Word of God through music, comedy and preaching. He integrates worship, laughter, preaching, exhortation and encouragement to reach people with hope, healing, forgiveness and freedom found in Jesus Christ. From directing, producing or co-producing award-winning films, releasing two musical albums, a comedy DVD and appearing on hit TV shows, Gray is determined to show that you can use every gift God has given you to build the kingdom of God and bless people.

Known for its progressive worship, cell methods, and obvious appeal to unchurched 20-somethings, Substance is making waves in the modern church world.

Haas speaks at conferences all over the world on the progressive church methodology that Substance utilizes. He also consults with church planters all over the globe as he serves on the A-Team of the Association of Related Churches. Heath Adamson sovereignly had his breath taken away by Jesus at the age of 17. Christ breathed life over the dead places in his heart that were steeped in drug abuse and a host of other things. He is the product of one person with a promise who prayed for him and is the first believer in his family lineage. Adamson married that one person who prayed for him and now he and his wife, Ali, have two daughters, Leighton and Dallon.

With an evident call to ministry, Adamson served as a youth pastor, district youth director for the Assemblies of God, Youth Alive missionary, and the Assemblies of God national youth director.
